AdministratorMark Alan Howe was appointed as the Ionia County Administrator in December of 1997. He is Ionia County’s first County Administrator after working as an award-winning journalist and serving as staff to members of the Michigan Legislature and the United States Congress. He is a graduate of Saranac High School, pursued an education in photography from Lansing Community College, and finished his Bachelor of Science in Communications (Magna Cum Laude) at Grand Valley State University where he was named the Outstanding Student of the Year by the Communications Department. As a journalist, Howe filled the roles of Sports Editor and News Editor of the Sentinel-Standard in Ionia and was the recipient of several awards including top honors from United Press International for spot news writing and from the Inland Daily Press Association for general coverage of local government. He began his career in public service as an intern, then as District Affairs Director for former State Senator Rudy J. Nichols. Howe has also been a staff advisor to former Senate Majority Leader Dick Posthumus, U.S. Congressman Vernon J. Ehlers, and State Representative Terry Geiger throughout his legislative and congressional career.
