Ionia County Health Plan The Ionia County Health Plan is a community-sponsored program that provides a defined set of health care benefits for the uninsured. This program provides a locally organized system for the provision of basic health care services to low-income, uninsured residents who are not eligible for mainstream medical assistance programs. For two years, the Ionia County Health Department worked to enact this program and it is now a reality. The plan covers doctor visits, outpatient labs and x-rays, and certain prescriptions, most of which do require a co-pay. In just one short year, we have filled 132 of the 200 available slots. There are 9 doctors that are part of the provider plan and the Ionia County Memorial Hospital is a key partner. The plan is county based, so it is tailored to Ionia County's needs. For more information regarding this program, please contact the Ionia County Health Department at (616)527-5340 or check out the links below. Disease Tracking The Ionia County Health Department partakes in the ongoing, systematic, collection, analysis and dissemination of health related data. This data is used to recognize unusual health patterns among our community and provide answers on how to solve the health problem. Medical Examiner (989) 584-3131 The Medical Examiner is responsible for determining the cause and nature of unexpected deaths in Ionia County. Through rigorous investigation of the scene of death, the medical and personal history of the deceased, as well as the physical pathology revealed through autopsy, Medical Examiners are able to find answers where before there were only questions.
