Administration-Board of Commissioners The Board of Commissioners is the legislative policy making branch of Ionia County Government. The Board is responsible to the citizens for development and administration of policies and the annual budget. The Board has members who are elected to office for a term of two years from districts selected according to population. They are assisted by a number of citizen advisory boards and commissions. This office can provide information regarding meeting dates, agenda items, and supply applications for the various advisory boards and commissions. 527-5300

County Administration The County Administrator and the Administrative Services Department staff coordinate and perform strategic planning for the overall mission of the County. The Administrative Services Department serves as the principal advisor to the Board and acts as liaison between the Board and other county departments. The department also represents the Board of Commissioners in dealings with other governmental agencies. The County Administrator supervises the actions of all appointed department heads and ensures that whenever possible, departments work together to provide the best possible service to the residents of Ionia County. 527-5300

Drain Commissioner The Drain Commissioner's Office is a key component in providing you with quality water supply, drainage systems and sewage disposal systems...and doing it in a way that keeps our environment safe and promotes responsible growth. Michigan State law, The Drain Code--Act 40 of 1956, as amended, gives the County Drain Commissioner powers and responsibilities to govern legally established drainage systems within the County. The County Drain Commissioner also has additional statutory responsibilities (Act 342, etc.), along with other responsibilities delegated by the Oakland County Board of Commissioners 527-5373

Equalization Our role is to assist the Board of Commissioners in equalizing the assessed value of Ionia County. This is accomplished by adding to or deducting, if necessary, from the assessed value of each class of property in all 51 assessing jurisdictions, in order to bring each entity to a common level of valuation. We compile sampling data, reports and statistics on property valuations in the County for use by the Finance Committee, and annually assist in the preparation of the Local Tax Report to be presented to the Board of Commissioners. We are also charged with reviewing and preparing reports for millage rollback calculations throughout the County, and administering requirements mandated by Proposal A and any additional mandated requirements. 527-5376

Prosecuting Attorney The Prosecuting Attorney is the chief law enforcement officer of Ionia County. The Office's primary duty is to prosecute adult and juvenile offenders who violate state felony and misdemeanor laws. 527-5302
Register of Deeds Keeps land records-deeds, mortgages, tax liens, plats and plat restrictions, and oil and gas leases. 527-5320
Road Commission Our goal is to maintain a county road system that is safe and convenient for public travel and to manage the roadside environment, with a view toward preservation. We also provide traffic control and maintain the roadsides along these roadways. Working with other governmental units, we work hard to locate and maximize every dollar available for road maintenance and construction. 527-1700
