A: New Micigan Court Rule (MCR) 1.110 provides that "fines, costs, and other financial obligations must be paid at the time of assessment, except when the court allows otherwise for good cause shown." "Good cause" includes not being able to afford payment. Q: What if I can't pay in full today? A: Report to the Compliance Officer, locatred in the Probation Department, immediately after sentencing. Q: What if I don't pay in full or report to the Compliance Officer on the day of sentencing? A: A bench warrany will be issued for your arrest on the following day. Q: When did this law change? A: January 1, 2002 Payment Plan Questions Q: How can I pay? A: Money order, personal check, or cash. If you would like to pay by credit card, please pick up a slip at the criminal/traffic window. Q: Where do I make monthly payments? A: At the criminal/traffic window or send your payment by mail. There is also a drop box on the front of the building on Main St. Q: Where do I send payment by mail? A: 64A District Court 101 W. Main St. Ionia, MI 48846. Please include your case number and name. Q: Do I have to mail it before my due date every month? A: It must be postmarked by the due date. Q: What if I don't get paid until the day after my due date? A:You are risking a bench warrant any time your payment is late, however make your payments as soon as possible. Q: Can I have fines and costs taken out of my paychecks? A: Yes, see the Compliance Officer to do an income withholding order. Q: What if I'm laid off or fired while on an income withholding order? A: You must report immediately to establish a new payment plan. Q: What if I go to jail in Ionia or another county and I am on a payment plan? A: Send a letter immediately to the Compliance Officer. Include as much information as possible, including a possible out date if you know. Q: What penalties am I risking if I don't pay? A: Suspension of your driver's liscense on some charges and/or a bench warrant, which may result in arrest, being found in contempt of court and possi bly jail time. Bench warrants also result in a $60 bench warrant fee. Also after 56 days, a 20% late fee may be assessed (20% of your balance). Q: Who do I call if I have a problem with my payment plan?
