The national threat advisory system is a uniform scale providing guidance to federal agencies for terrorism alerts and when coordinated with state government and local communities will improve the overall homeland security and emergency management system around the nation.

The National Weather Service (NWS) provides weather, hydrologic, and climate forecasts and warnings for the United States, its territories, adjacent waters and ocean areas, for the protection of life and property and the enhancement of the national economy.
