Description
Under general direction of the Board of Commissioners, the Equalization
Department directs the valuation of real and personal property and the
equalization of property tax assessments to create uniformity by class
among the various taxing jurisdictions within the county. The department
also assures that assessment standards mandated by the Headlee amendment
are maintained, issues and verifies house numbers, explains departmental
procedures, tax laws and the assessment process to county residents, provides
information on property descriptions and assessments and prepares and
files necessary reports with the State Tax Commission.

Services
Maintain and print a listing of all recorded property sales within the
county
Print assessment change notices and assessment rolls for 15 taxing units
Verify and issue house numbers in Ionia County (except cities)
Answer assessment and administrative questions
