We seek to help residents live long and healthy lives through the assurance of environmental quality, the access to personal health services and the dissemination of information to make wise health decisions.

***PORTLAND TORNADO CLEAN UP INFORMATION***
We would like anyone who plans on preparing food to be given away to volunteers during the clean-up efforts in Portland to know that they should contact the Ionia County Health Department at 616-527-5341 prior to the event. The information we need from them is a date and time of the event along with the location and contact person name and phone number and what type of food they are serving. To accommodate the organizers of these events the inspections will be free of charge by the Health Department and applications/licenses will be brought to the location during the event to prevent the event coordinator from having to travel to the City of Ionia. We will also be handing out food safety information and other items to help these groups serve food safely. The Health Department would like everyone to know that we are here to help them serve safe food and we will do anything to help them with their efforts.
PLEASE NOTE THAT PRE-PACKAGED FOODS SUCH AS CHIPS, POPSICLES, BOTTLED WATER, GRANOLA BARS, ETC. DO NOT REQUIRE A LICENSE.

We provide information; pamphlets at your doctor’s office, public service announcements in the media, programs in schools, and detailed websites that allow you to make healthy decisions everyday like exercising more, eating right, quitting smoking or simply washing your hands to keep from spreading illness.
