Greetings Prospective Probate Court Jurors:

Perhaps you have received notice that you are one of the prospective jurors for the Probate  Court, perhaps you are simply curious as to what jury duty will involve. This will  enlighten you as to what it means to be a juror in the Probate Court.

In the trial courts for Ionia County, the terms of jurors are for three months, each term beginning about the middle of January, April, July, and October. Few cases actually will be tried before a jury in our court; therefore, there should not be a serious interruption of your routine. Most jury trials last one day and therefore the anticipation of serving as a juror should not give you concern. Usually it is a rewarding, educational experience. We will make every effort to ensure a positive experience for you.

Our court schedules jury trials as they are demanded and they are generally scheduled on Mondays or Fridays at 9:00 a.m.  You will receive notice of these trials by mail and every effort will be made to give you adequate notice of each trial. You also may check this website periodically to see if new trials have been scheduled or previously scheduled trials have been cancelled. You may also call (616) 527-5326 after 5:00 p.m. on any weekday or any time during weekends to get a current list of jury trials. The message will change frequently.

If the phone message says you are to appear, please check in at the Probate Court office on the main floor of the courthouse by 8:45 a.m. An orientation will be held in the Circuit Courtroom on the 2nd  floor to assist you in better understanding your juror service on the day you first report.
