WHEN TO GET A DOG LICENSE
WHEN A DOG LICENSE NEEDS TO BE PURCHASED
Michigan State laws require any dog to be licensed by the age of four months of age. Your will purchase your license in the month that your dog’s vaccination was given.
The rabies vaccination must be current in order for you to purchase or renew your dog’s license. For a one-year license, the rabies certificate must be valid the entire year. For a three-year license, the rabies certificate must be valid the entire three years. The rabies vaccine must be licensed by the United States department of agriculture and signed by an accredited veterinarian. Check your rabies expiration date prior to mailing your application. The license cannot extend longer than the rabies shot. If your dog has been spayed or neutered or has a new rabies shot since its last license, send proof with your application.
A veterinarian’s certification of sterilization is required for the neutered license. You must send the neuter certificate with the application. Both the rabies and sterilization certificates will be returned with your new license.
Dog licenses are non-refundable and non-transferrable.
